1917

Opening scene from 1917

1917 is a movie staged during World War I that follows the journey of two soliders as they attempt to deliver an important message to the front lines of battle. The movie is most well-known for being a "one-shot" film which helps to immerse the audience in the story. Throughout the entire two hour long movie, the camera never cuts to a different angle or a different scene. Instead, the camera follows the soliders everywhere they go and it appears the camera has been recording the entire time. In reality, the cuts are disguised so that it is difficult to see when one shot ends and the next one begins. A few of the ways they accomplished this is that when an object passes in front of the camera, the camera enters into a dark room, or the camera whips to the side, a cut can be hidden in this motion.
